Soooooo I ended up in a costume for 3 days....

I think I must be super bored. I ended up walking around Suntec and later at Republic Poly for 3 days as Ezio..... :P

This was because both STGCC and EOY fell on the same weekend.... so yeah, Friday, Sat and Sunday....

Needless to say, the outfit went to the laundry immediately after that.....  :P The laundry ladies didn't quite know what to make of the outer silver doublet... and then after that there was the issue of pricing... luckily they didn't decide to charge me the cost of an overcoat in terms of pricing for dry cleaning.....:whew:

Bad news, the red lining of my cape isn't colourfast and 'cos of all the sweat, it stained my silver doublet.... haiz. More bad news, dry cleaning doesn't take it out.

Thing is I found out that going to an event alone is pretty lonely.... :( I ended up humming that cheesy "lllrrrroonnnneeellyy.... I am so llllrrronneeelly.... all on my own...." tune in the Suntec loo.....:( Luckily 'cos it was a pretty isolated loo, no one heard me.....:(


It would be really nice if I had someone other than Wolfy to go to these events with....:( Unfortunately, he was in Australia when I went for STGCC....

The problem with people who have too true-to-life outfits is that they often also have true-to-life weapons. V's daggers are steel and sharpened. Very dangerous actually since a lot of idiots at these events can just walk into them. That is one reason why I've opted to carry a fake-looking and completely blunt sword...

I do like him... loads of fun, bubbily... and also just 4 years my junior... yup, "Naruto" has found the fountain of youth.

I found them to be pretty inspiring... although their get up is simple.. it is accurate as they are from some Digimon anime. And yeah, they were always perfectly in character.

Being a history buff I would really like to see more historical stuff at future events. Although the uniforms are re-creations, they do look authentic. Apparently the only thing that does date from World War 2 is the gun holster on the Russian's belt.

Still... it does look very Herr Kommisar-ish..

I like the group that does free hugs, they are the only ones who made me smile at the 2 days of STGCC... Yeah, the hugs do help my llllrrrronnneli-ness.

This is just too cute. I'm getting the ears and paws....

Cosplay singles competition. Most of the acts fell flat.... especially those with dialogue. The dialogue sound was just too soft.

Most of the group category acts were pretty flat as well.... in the end... dancing Patapons won the audience vote.... :(

Apparently, since my own debut as "Ezio" on the cosplaying scene... other "Ezio"'s have also popped up.... The group was a mixed bunch in the group competition... I decided to watch and try to support them... after all they did teach me how to make a hidden blade that works....

I have only one piece of advice for them.

Learn some martial arts... or wushu.... and choreograph ur act before you go on stage again. The "fighting" was soooo soooo bad.... later when surfing around online, I found someone in the local Hardwarezone forum who commented that he was terribly disappointed by the cosplay of the guy who did Ezio (brotherhood version) in the competition cos his costume looked very (CMI - cannot make it). :((((

Wolfy ... as you can see was terribly happy at EOY.

I on the other hand was a bit exhausted by the whole thing.. but had time for a few pics.. especially this one... with the 4kg hat... yeah.. 4kgs... she has a strong neck.

With the exception of moi, everyone in that pic is a furry. Wolfy btw was terribly happy to have found his "furry community"... it was like a homecoming for him.

Wolfy tried to help me take some nice shots... but all the nice EOY shots are naturally not taken by me or Wolfy... and this just reminds me of how short I am ... haiz.

At the end I was really exhausted and ended up sleeping at home for a couple of days... how can I do this? Well... I have semi-bum status...:(

AFAX: Photos from the Anime Festival Asia 2010

Over the years, because of my involvement in theatre and other random activities (some of them partially insane)... I have amassed a certain number of outfits. 

The thing about having a collection of unique looking outfits is that, one is always looking for an opportunity to use them. After all, if you leave them in the cupboard too long, they get moldy... what with the weather here... And what's more, halloween only comes by once a year and that really sucks.... :P

So naturally, being in Asia, I decided some time ago, especially after making my current outfit, to find a place to use them. I decided to attend cosplay events because they are fun and I have Wolfy to accompany me... Moreover, he genuinely seems to enjoy them.

Personally I find it more appealing to attend a historical reenactment event or something like SCA, but there isn't any here and I don't want to travel to Australia frequently, sooooooo.... cosplay is the best thing we have. 

Besides, I realised after going for medieval swordfighting classes, that there isn't really a chance for me (or any of my fellow students unfortunately), to use any of the gear that we have... or to use our skills in this country.... haiz.... well... at this point, I think that no matter how strange sparring tournaments at SCA might look with fully armoured guys (most of them don't seem to have been trained in medieval fighting styles) going at each other with rattan canes, it is still better than being fully armoured with REAL swords and nowhere to go use them.

Anyways.... for the benefit of Wolfy, here are the pics of Wolfy and me and our green-clad "otaku-for-a-day" friend B (all hail the otakus... without whom we won't have all those wonderful photos of the cosplay events) at the Anime Festival Asia 2010 (AFAX)... I've pixelated our faces for the most part because we're too famous in certain industries and among some societal groups.

Wolfy's outfit is the monk character from the Korean MMORPG Ragnarok Online. And well... I'm Ezio from Assassin's Creed 2.

At this point I have to admit I really really wanna make certain.... comments about some of the pictures, but I guess I'll have to restrain myself lest someone comes up to me at the later date, backhands me with a limp glove and sayz, "Ah challen' joo to a duuuueeeellll.."

Are we vain? Yep.

I am pretty impressed by "white mage"'s costume.
100% self made and we can spot that staff a mile away.

I really really never thought I would meet Isis-P
(whom we got to know from the local holistic scene) at AFAX.
But on second thought, it should be no big surprise.

who offered "Ezio" some strawberry Pocky.

Now I gotta say this... John on the right really really
does have bear some resemblance to Bruce Lee.
It's no surprise he is also a follower of Jeet Kun Do.

I don't really like masked riders
or power rangers or any characters
of the fully armoured and covered genre...
But their costumes sure stand out.

Wolfy was so happy he finally found some characters
from Ragnarok Online. The irony is that he got even MORE assassins.

Actually met a sport fencer who was using his foil as a prop.

To my right (left side of pic) is a self-styled "master of weapons"
and practitioner of Sambo. Weapon enthusiasts and martial artists,
feel free to quiz him about it if you do see him at other similar events.

That is one very Jack... Jack Sparrow. And an all round nice guy.
